All children deserve a safe, permanent home with loving people to care for them. Each year in the U.S., millions of children are abused, neglected or abandoned by their families. Over 500,000 of these children are removed from their homes and placed in foster care. Eventually, they end up in court, where many of these children are victimized a second time, lost in an over burdened child welfare system. Sometimes a child can remain in foster care for months, even years.

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA volunteers) arc trained to speak up for the best interests of abused and neglected children in the courts. They are appointed by a judge to review records, research information and talk to everyone involved in a child's case. They make recommendations as to what is best for the child and monitor the case, making sure the child remains safe, until a permanent resolution is reached. There is no special experience required. Help a child find their way.

Currently, there are more than 60,000 CASA volunteers in 900 programs across the country. CASA volunteers have served over one million children since its inception in 1977. These children were served either one child at a time or one family group at a time.
